My project started with the ultimate goal of making a
GPS guided model airplane for my own interest in R/C airplanes and a
growing interest in the Parallax Basic Stamp micro controller. I decided
before advancing into the realm of three dimensional movement where there
is that ever annoying variable called gravity lurking around, that I would
go with a much easier project to brush up on my programming skills. Coincidentally
I also had to make a final project for my Industrial Control/Robotics
class at the same time I began this idea. So spawned the idea of mating
GPS guidance with a simple remote controlled truck.
Many people looking at this web page already know what a
parallax basic stamp (www.parallax.com)
especially since I had thirty some odd emails requesting information after
I posted an email on the newsgroup mentioning I had a working GPS guided
truck. I send my thanks to all those that helped me through my programming
and gave me guidance (pun intended) through this project. First off my
parents for their massive amount of support (financial of course), my fiancée
for putting up with a very large mess of wires, computers, and the
wonderful smell of soldering irons.
Others include Dr. Samuel Guccione a new professor at
Eastern that helped me throughout this project and also it was his
robotics class that finally made me get my act together and put this all
together. Dr. John Messer also at Eastern in the electronics area of
Industrial Technology. He donated a good deal of time and knowledge that
helped me to accomplish my goal and also spurred my interest in the
parallax basic stamp.
Those people from the stamp newsgroup that helped were:
Cliff, Al Williams, Brice D. Hornback, Bruce Bates, cole_john, dakota, David
cousins, Don Russell, General Fischer, Jay Hanson, Kerry Barlow, Martin
Zinaich, mdmontoya22, Michael Hendricks, Miguel Puchol, Mike
DeMetz, Mike Hardwick, Mike Mocenter, Paul Verhage, Rodent, S
Parkis, Scott Tappan, Scott Winn, Timothy Morris, Wayne Fulcher, William
Thompson. Even if they never communicated with me directly I still have
some of their messages from the newsgroup and used their information in
one way or another.
Enough with the small talk, for
those who want to see some meat and potatoes. |
